The Studio of Josef Sudek is a private gallery presenting Czech and international art photography. The Curator of the gallery is Helena Blašková.

The founder of the studio, partner and investor in its reconstruction and subsequent operation within the framework of the Photographer in the Garden project is the firm of PPF majetková a.s., a member of the PPF Group.

The initiative for the reconstruction of the Studio of Josef Sudek, one of the most significant Czech photographers, in the place where it originally stood before its destruction, arose at the end of the eighties and during the nineties. The immediate impetus for the reconstruction of the gallery was given by Dr. Anna Fárová, a prominent expert on the life and work of Sudek. Operation of the gallery was undertaken by the firm of Gema Art. Since the beginning of 2003 operation has been taken over by the firm of PPF majetková a.s.

The Mayor of the capital city of Prague, Mr. Jan Kasl, gave the reconstruction project his own personal patronage and notable support was also supplied by the municipal district of Prague 1, where the project met with extraordinary understanding.

Neither would it have been possible to realise this project without the kind support of the Museum of Applied Art in Prague, which provided the preserved authentic equipment of the original studio.

The project for the reconstruction of the studio was prepared by architects Vít Máslo and Wanda Krčíková from the firm of CMC architekti, s.r.o. to which invaluable assistance in their work was given by Dr. Anna Fárová and Mr. Jan Mlčoch from the Museum of Applied Art. The construction work was contracted to Konstruktiva Branko a.s.
